A poopy poopy poopy poopy day! Literally!

I apologize in advance for the poopy  topic, but I KNOW someone out there has either dealt with this, or will deal with it. Perhaps this blog will be helpful to them. Maybe your comments can be helpful to me. And for those of you who don't have kids, you can just laugh at the fact that I am dealing with this and you aren't. I will do my best to talk about this the least gross and most tactful way I can. I can't believe I am writing this, but I am. Here it goes!

For the almost 2 weeks now, Ruby has been in big girl underwear. She has been really great going pee pee in the potty, but was saving all of her BMs for nap time or overnight. I noticed things getting getting more and more runny ( you know what I mean). I was a little concerned, but I there was no change in her behavior and she never had a fever. Every once in a while she would say her tummy hurt. I would encourage her to go poop to feel better, but she never would.

Well yesterday, things got worse. It was a poopy poopy day! Ruby had 3 BM accidents in the morning and 1 in the afternoon. Each time, I had to put her in the shower, clean her up, and do laundry. At that point I started to really worry that she was sick or something was REALLY wrong. She was obviously caught off guard by the episodes when they happened and she was VERY embarrassed.  So, I called the doctors office and spoke to the nurse.

The nurse was very helpful. She told me that it could be a bug, but she was willing to bet that all of this upset stomach was due to Ruby refusing to go to the bathroom. Stool- holding syndrome??? She said that if it didn't get better Ruby was going to have to get put on a stool softener. UGH! She said to put her on the potty and just let her sit for a long time. THAT is no easy task with Ruby. She cries and cries and says she is all done. I feel like I am just making things worse and that I will scar her about going potty for life.

So, we have to increase fiber, lay off of the milk, and encourage pooping. LOVELY! We'll see how it goes. I guess my little darling really is full of it! I just hope this gets better soon. ANY advice or sympathy would be greatly appreciated.  Today has been a less poopy day. I would have thought that was a good thing, but now I am not sure! OHHHHH. Ruby, Ruby, Ruby! I love you girl, but seriously I'm tired of dealing with your poop! No pun intended... maybe just a little.

We too have a poopy problem at our house. Justin's 4 and he has long been potty-trained but he's a little...ummm...stopped up. He doesn't like to go because he says it hurts and it becomes a big a deal (complete with crying, screaming, and the such). He had to get an enema last night because he hadn't been for several days and that was VERY traumatic for everyone! We've tried several different stool softeners but nothing seems to do the trick. Keep me posted on how things go for you!

Have you tried having her read while on the toilet? You might have to break her of that later, but that an easy one.

Oh, that stinks! (Pardon that awful pun, I just couldn't resist!) Quaker Oats makes a really good fiber infused granola bar. It's a lot better than some of the others that are fiber heavy. When Spencer was like a week old she stopped pooping for like 4 days and I was so freaked out. But the doctor said it was normal for preemies and not to worry unless it went on for longer than a week or if she was experiencing a lot of discomfort. Well, when she finally went... I was fully convinced that the poop weighed more than she did. I couldn't believe her tiny little body was capable of producing and containing that much! Hope things get better soon. Come check out my blog if you get a chance! I'm working on a putting together a Virginia Bloggers tab for my sidebar, if you think you might be interested in that.

Thanks so much for your comments. We did indeed have poop success in the potty today. After 3 prunes, grapes, celery and high fiber bread, she actually went in the potty. And then again in her diaper at nap. We'll get there. thanks for all of the great suggestions.

Hey, when I was younger I was always having stomach aches and pains and my pediatrician told my mom to make me either drink the Metamucil mix or eat the bar. I found out very quickly that the cinnamon fiber bars were more like a cookie. Although they left an after taste, let's just say that my stomach issues went away. You might want to try it with Ruby if she'll eat it...
